Odor eliminating light bulb
Written by Vlad on July 6, 2004 – 12:54 pmSounds strange, doesn’t it? According to the producer, the Titanium Dioxide cover on these fresh2 fluorescent bulbs cause intense oxidization which breaks down odor completely. Surprisingly, it seems to work.

UPDATE:
After doing some research (yeah, Google rulez!) I found out how TiO2 works. My first thought was that it ionizes the oxygen or generates ozone – O3 but no, it doesn’t happen that way. In fact TiO2 is a strong photocatalyst and if there is light it will decompose organic molecules that come in contact with it generating CO2 and water.
There are a lot of uses for TiO2, from TiO2-coated glass windows that clean themselves to TiO2-coated pavement which decomposes nitrogen oxide from vehicle emissions. For more info visit this link.
It also makes me think of Bosch’s AntiBacteria Fridge (which is silver coated).
