What’s New?

Being an avid consumer of feeds I’m dedicating a lot of time to reading through blogs and news. So why not try to sum up, maybe on a weekly basis, what catches my eyes?

Here goes:

I hope these will keep you entertained over the weekend!

WCG 2006 – World Cyber Games

Romania ranked high on WCG 2006:

My guess we would’ve won at FIFA ’07 for sure as I saw it on a .ro torrent tracker even before it’s official release date :D and NFS Carbon will prolly follow real, real soon. Tough luck for Counter Strike fans, though.

Also reported in Cotidianul (in Romanian)!

Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta From A Different User Account

I’ve been struggling a while tryin’ to figure out how to upgrade a beta version of IE on a computer (the 7.0 official release failed to update because it couldn’t uninstall the previous beta version). It seems that normally you need to uninstall IE from the same user account from which it was installed. This was impossible in my case and the uninstall kept failing. Luckily in the end I finally read the release notes and (who would’ve thought?) it was covered there:

Internet Explorer 7 Fails to Uninstall from Specified User Account

If you see an error message saying that you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 from this user account, you can bypass the check by following these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
  3. Right-click the Internet Explorer key, click New, and then click DWORD value.
  4. Type InstalledByUser as the name, and then press ENTER to finish creating the new registry value.
  5. Try to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 again.

And it works! Gosh, what would we do without regedit

Schumacher’s Retirement Gift: An Island In Dubai

Last evening I was just watching o documentary on the building of Pal Jumeirah on Discovery (in their Mega Builders series) and in the morning I found this piece of news on updatef1.com:

Dubai’s crown prince – Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – reportedly decided to give the retiring German a piece of the man-made island paradise “The World” (map), located off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

At an estimated value of $7 mil. I’d say it’s a nice present. Schumi’s well worth it anyway.
