Why Google Reader?
Written by Vlad on April 6, 2008 – 9:29 amI’m generally not a Google fanboy. Really! Though, I do think their search is the best thing since sliced bread and Gmail is the greatest free service (just a figure of speech, nothing is free these days). And I love the Reader.
Web feeds (RSS or Atom) are great if you want to track blogs, discussions, news and web sites of all kind. I’ve been using them for some time and I have a strong feeling I’ll stick to them some more. But consuming them is a long story. In time I’ve used numerous systems. Some were desktop apps, others were web services. I’ve had my share of passing OPMLs from one program/service to another. Stats Helper Plugin 0.4: Timeframe selection, Post/Page views
Written by Vlad on April 3, 2008 – 4:10 pmI’ve been waiting for the wordpress.org/extend hosting to be activated before posting updates to the Stats Helper Plugin. So here goes!
Version 0.4 brings:
- Possibility to specify a timeframe for the stats
- Possibility to retrieve views for a specific post/page (by id)
- (Hopefully) better usage documentation

WordPress Stats Helper Plugin 0.3, Blog Visits

WordPress Stats Helper Plugin v0.2, Internal Options – Based Cache Details

- internal, option-based, cache for data fetched from wordpress.com
- added possibility to not display post views count (when using either as a function or as a widget)
- capped post list to a maximum of 25 items
Andy expressed some serious concern when I first asked him to review this plugin: it was using wp_cache for data fetched from stats.wordpress.com. By default the cache is not enabled in wordpress (you have to manually set a variable in wp-config.php). He suggested I use the options to emulate a cache for my plugin.
